MHD

High-Performance Computational Studies of Magnetically Confined Plasmas

Our Work

The Magneto-Hydrodynamics (MHD) division of the Quark Nova Project (QNP) is a group of scientists based out of the University of Calgary who develop code to produce 2D and 3D simulations of outflows from YSOs. The group is concentrated on high-perfomance computational studies of magnetically confined plasmas in astrophysics and in the laboratory.

Multimedia

Animation of increasing Z slices from the bow-shock inwards. Simulated flying into the jet. Visualization done by SHAPE.

BP animation of slit movement accross jet for SII. Images are LOG scale. Visualization done by SHAPE.

BP color animation. H = Blue, OII = Orange, FeII = Red. The jet is inclined at x=30 deg, y = 30 deg. All images are in a LOG scale. Visualization done by SHAPE.

PP color animation. H = Blue, OII = Orange, FeII = Red. The jet is inclined at x=30 deg, y = 30 deg. All images are in a LOG scale. Visualization done by SHAPE.

MU color animation. H = Blue, OII = Orange, FeII = Red. The jet is inclined at x=30 deg, y = 30 deg. All images are in a LOG scale. Visualization done by SHAPE.

PP FeII animation. First sequence is grey-scale, second is temperature, third is z-velocity. No inclination. Visualization done by SHAPE.

MU color animation. H = Blue, OII = Orange, FeII = Red. The jet is inclined at x=30 deg, y = 30 deg. All images are in a LOG scale. Visualization done by SHAPE.

MU SII animation. First sequence is grey-scale, second is temperature, third is z-velocity. The jet is inclined at x=30 deg, y = 30 deg. Visualization done by SHAPE.
